The Massachusetts Legislature rejected a proposed constitutional amendment banning gay marriage but legalizing civil unions.

Ang Lee’s gay film, Brokeback Mountain, won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. It’s a film about the love between two cowboys in the conservative West of the 1960s.
Reilly certifies anti-marriage initiative. This is a voter-initiated attempt to pass a Constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.
Unfortunately, the AG’s own website says that an initiative cannot be certified if it “relates … to the reversal of a judicial decision.”

This prescient 2004 article details a doomsday scenario for New Orleans. It goes on to say

The Federal Emergency Management Agency lists a hurricane strike on New Orleans as one of the most dire threats to the nation, up there with a large earthquake in California or a terrorist attack on New York City. Even the Red Cross no longer opens hurricane shelters in the city, claiming the risk to its workers is too great.
